Privacy Policy

Hockey Bytes counts user visits to learn which pages and features are useful. We do this ourselves: there are no cookies, no advertising, no analytics companies, and no third-party scripts.

What is collected

  • Which pages are viewed and the website that linked to the page (its domain only).
  • Advertising campaign tags from a link you followed such as utm_source, utm_medium, and utm_campaign.
  • Which parts of a page are seen and used, which links are clicked, and for links to other websites, the website and page they lead to.
  • Your device type (phone, tablet or desktop) as well as browser and operating system names.
  • The approximate width of your screen.
  • Whether your device is set to dark mode and to reduce motion.

To count visitors without tracking anyone, we turn your connection details into a scrambled code that changes every day, and we count that code.

Our service providers may keep their own short-term logs of requests with technical details such as IP addresses so they can run their services but we do not use that data for our analytics purposes.

What we never keep

We never store your IP address, your full browser details, anything you type, or the full address of the pages you visit (anything after a? is removed).

How long we keep your data?

The raw data that we collect from users is deleted after 13 months. Aggregations are kept indefinitely for reporting purposes.

How to opt out

Any of these stops your visits from being counted:

  • The links below. They apply to this browser on this device only. Clearing this site's data in your browser resets them.
  • Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends this signal, we count nothing. It is built into browsers such as Firefox, Brave and DuckDuckGo, and available as an extension for others.
  • Do Not Track. If your browser sends this setting, we count nothing.
  • Blocking JavaScript or using a content blocker. Either stops the counting script from running.
